Switch a connected account from read-only to trading

Your account linked read-only? Approve trading access and re-authorize your broker in about two minutes.

New connections start read-only: the club can see your holdings but cannot place orders. Trading is included with Rebel Lite and Rebel Pro. Turning it on takes two approvals — one in the club and one at your brokerage.

Step 1: Approve trading access in the club

  1. 1

    Open Portfolio settings

Go to My portfolio, then Portfolio settings, and find Access consent.

  2. 2

    Switch on Trading access

Read-only data access must stay on. Tick the box confirming you authorise the club to submit orders you confirm.

  3. 3

    Save access consent

You will see “Read and trading access approved.” This does not place any order.

Step 2: Re-authorize your brokerage

  1. 1

    Click Enable trading

Open My portfolio or the Trade desk. The yellow “connected read-only” banner has a button named Enable trading on your broker.

  2. 2

Sign in to your broker and approve trading

In the secure window, log in and approve trading permission. This upgrades the same connection, so your accounts stay linked.

  3. 3

Wait for the badge to update

Return to the club. Permissions refresh in 10–30 seconds. If it still says Pending, refresh the page.

Do not delete and re-add the account to get trading — a new link starts read-only again and can double-count positions. Use Enable trading instead.

Check your brokerage account too

  • Your brokerage account itself must allow the trade type (for example, options approval or margin).
  • Some brokers ask you to accept API or third-party access terms in their own website settings.
  • Retirement and custodial accounts may limit what can be traded.
  • Every order still shows a review screen and needs your confirmation before it is sent.
The Enable trading button is greyed out.
Finish Step 1 first. The button unlocks once trading access is approved in Portfolio settings.
It still says read-only after approving.
Wait 30 seconds and refresh. If it persists, click Enable trading again and make sure you approved trading (not just viewing) at your broker.
My order was rejected.
Read the broker’s reason. It is usually buying power or an account permission such as options level.
